Danube Day 2017 in Austria

The Danube took over Vienna’s Stadtpark on June 22nd with interactive games, fascinating facts, creatures, crafts and competitions. Get a flavour of the day from Danube Day Austria's video and facebook stream.

Children became river detectives for the day in Danube Day Austria's exciting Danube Puzzle Race. Who'd be first to complete the 17 activities: solving puzzles, collecting stamps and Danube goodies to become the champion? Various aspects of Danube life were featured, with information on the 14 countries, Danube careers, and the creatures that depend on our rivers. Slovak children joined in the fun and performed their own Danube message in front of the crowds.

There was something for everyone! You could try out being an Environmental Officer with Vienna's Open Lab; meet European March Turtles from the Donau-Auen National Park; or get aboard a Water Police boat. The Scouts were prepared for fun at their water play station. Upper Austria officials guided pupils to build a floodwater protection wall and the Youth Red Cross demonstrated nautical knots, flags and emergency procedures. If all this was thirsty work, you could try mixing water cocktails at the Danube Challenge stall or take a breather at via donau's reading corner.

Date: Thursday 22nd June; 08:00 - 17:00.
