Danube Day 2017 in Croatia

June is the Month of Rivers in Croatia, running from Sava Day on the 1st to Danube Day on the 29th. Whichever is your favourite river, there's an event for you!

The Danube banks in Vukovar provide the setting for national festivities. You can get active in the river clean-up; enjoy an outing to Vukovar Island; hear about projects and join us for the official Danube Day speeches. Make a real difference by taking part in the Get active for cleaner rivers campaign in Lučica: volunteers and professional divers will clear rubbish above and below the water line. The Ministry of Environment and Energy / Croatian Waters event involves all levels of government, scientific and business sectors, as well as local people relying on rivers for their livelihoods and recreation.
Date: Thursday 29th June 2017; 11.00

Join us on the banks of the Drava near Barcs for a joint Croatia-Hungary Danube Day. Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Danube-Drava National Park, communities and officials will take part from both sides of the border. Come along for tasty fish soup in the Danube Cook-off; live music on the main stage; river cruises and a children's paper boat launch. High-level government, institute, civil society and ICPDR representatives will be attending the event that builds on the close relationship between the two countries. Raising awareness of clean rivers, it emphasizes the value of working together for a sustainable future. Read more on Hungary's page.
Date: Thursday 29th June 2017; 10.00-19.00

Celebrations of Sava river life - past, present and future - run from May to July. Marking 10 years of cooperation within the Our Beautiful Sava campaign, summer fairs take place in Zagreb (20th May); Sisak (17th June); Županja (24th June) and Slavonski Brod (7-8th July). June's events emphasize Danube-Sava links, showcasing the region's customs, crafts and cuisine whilst looking to the future with new ideas in tourism, recreation and sustainable development. Events are led by the Ministry Environment and Energy and Croatian Waters, in cooperation with the Sava Commission, Coca-Cola HBC Croatia and others. Find out more on the project website.
Dates: May - July 2017

May 2017 saw the return of a children's favourite - Hrvoje, the young turtle - whose adventures encourage the young to learn about and act on water safety, flooding and pollution. A new book for 2017 - 'Hrvoje’s New Adventure: from waste water to clean water' - forms part of an ongoing Ministry - Croatian Waters youth awareness campaign. Water lab road-shows will be visiting schools and public events throughout the summer, giving children the chance to meet experts, check water samples and explore the microscopic world of our rivers.
Dates: Throughout spring-summer 2017

If you're aged 6-18 years and love your river, the Danube Art Master competition is for you! Your challenge is to create a 3D artwork or 1-minute video that celebrates the Danube environment. Rivers are your inspiration: make an artwork or video during a visit to your river. Use your creativity to show how it is important to you or perhaps what should be done to look after it. Then submit a photo or video to national organisers, Green Osijek, and you could win a top prize! Two winners will be invited to Vienna for the 14-country Danube Art Master final.
Deadline for entries: Thursday 20th July 2017.
